The books say learning about their reflection in the mirror is a big step for a baby to understanding their existence and self awareness - very difficult, intangible concepts to grasp. We've already done pretty well, where Davis looks in the mirror and smiles and Mommy or Daddy, and then turns his head to really look at us.
But I don't know if he ever saw himself until now. At least, not like this. You'll see he points his fingers into the mirror, which I make out to mean he thinks he can touch the baby in the mirror, or that he can put his hand into the space the he sees. This went on for a while, and it's just fascinating to see the wheels turning in his ever-growing mind.
